Some Spectacular Waterfalls in India

 Some of the well known waterfalls in India
Kunchikal Falls
It is the highest waterfalls in India and ranks second in Asia. Formed by the River Varahi, the picturesque waterfalls cascade beautifully from the breathtaking height of 455 metres and holds 116 ranks in the world according to the height. Before the construction of Mani Dam near Masthikatte, the waterfalls was immense, but now with the dam coming into picture and more of all the construction of power generation near Hulikal, the fall is visible   only during rainly season  between July to September.

Nohkalikai Falls
Cascading from the breathtaking height of 1100 feet, Nohkalikai Falls is the most popular waterfall in Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on earth. It is located 7 kms away from Cherrapunji  and going back to the legend, the name Nohkalikai Falls come from tragic Khasi Legend. 

According to the legend, women name Lakai had re-married after her huband died, who was a porter by profession. She had one girl child and for survival she took the profession of a porter and very soon her friends started asking her to look for a new man and soon she got married. But she was not able to give much attention to her new husband and the jealous husband killed her daughter from first husband and cooked it, throwing the head and the bones. 

While Ka Kalai returned from work, she had the meal prepared by her husband. After having the mean, Ka Kalai used to have betel nuts and betel leaves and when she went near the place where she usually kept these betel nuts, to her surprise she found fingers of the infant. 

Ka Kalai after that came to know, what had happened in her absence and in madenss and anger she started running and jumped off the plateau and the scenic waterfalls. In her name from where she jumped off is known as Nohkalikai Falls as Noh in Khasi means jump.

Nohsngithiang Falls
Located south of Mawsmai Village, Nohsngithiang Falls is one of the spectacular waterfalls in India known by the name Seven Sisters Waterfalls and also as Mawsmai Falls. It is also the 4th highest waterfalls in India that plunges down from the mighty height of 315 metres. It is a wonderful state of an art of Mother Nature which delights the heart of the visitors to this picturesque waterfall.
